More and more businesses are turning to their eNPS (Employee Net Promoter Score) to measure employee satisfaction and loyalty within their organisation.
In this blog, we’ll look at the benefits of eNPS, and how HR Planner’s exciting new survey feature can help SMEs set up their own custom surveys to help calculate scores.
What is eNPS?
eNPS works similarly to the traditional Net Promoter Score (NPS) system. It helps you monitor employee engagement and understand how employees feel about your business.
Recipients of the survey are typically asked how likely they are to recommend your company, rating their answer on a scale of 1-10.
How to calculate an eNPS score
As with NPS, the answers are grouped into three categories: ‘detractors’, ‘passives’, and ‘promoters’.
- Those who respond “0-6” are detractors
- Those who respond “7-8” are passives
- Those who respond “9-10” are promoters
Calculating the eNPS is pretty straightforward. Work out the percentage of each group based on the total number of responses, then subtract the % of detractors from the % of promoters.
For example, if you received 100 responses to your survey:
- 10 responses were in the 0–6 range (Detractors) = 10% are detractors
- 20 responses were in the 7–8 range (Passives) = 20% are passives
- 70 responses were in the 9–10 range (Promoters) = 70% are promoters
To calculate the NPS = Promoters (70%) – Detractors (10%)
The Net Promoter Score is 60 (it’s always shown as an integer and not a percentage).
You can also have a negative eNPS, as your score can range from -100 to +100.
Benefits of eNPS
An eNPS is highly valuable for HR teams and SMEs, for several reasons:
- Provides a pulse check to understand how your team is feeling about work
- Improves employee satisfaction by showing their feedback is valued
- Identifies potential areas for improvement
- Boosts staff engagement and retention by addressing any issues proactively
- Highlights potential training opportunities to meet any skill gaps
- Helps prevent costly staff turnover, which costs 33% on average of each employee’s base pay
